Euro-zone exchange

The official conversion rates of the Euro with the currencies joining it were irrevocably decided on the 31st of December 1998.

The rates are:

  • 1 euro
    • 166,386 pesetas
    • 1,95583 Deutsche marks
    • 6,55957 French francs
    • 1936,27 Italian lira
    • 200,482 Portuguese escudos
    • 2,20371 Dutch florins
    • 40,3399 Belgian francs
    • 40,3399 Luxembourgian francs
    • 0,787564 Irish pounds
    • 340,75 Greek drachmas (entering after 31/12/1998)
    • 13,7603 Austrian schillings
    • 5,94573 Finnish marks

These are the rates which must necessarily be used for any conversion. They cannot be rounded up or down, shortened or used for reverse exchange operations.

To obtain the equivalence between two EMU currencies, then a triangular calculation must be performed through the Euro conversion rate of each currency, using a minimum of three decimal points in each intermediate stage.
